m17 R5, GPU crashes consistently
Alienware m17 R5 AMD
I just got a brand new Alienware m17 R5 AMD edition with 3080 Ti and max specs. Ran all the necessary updates and having issues even on the web browser with videos playing; they glitch out and occasionally cause the screen to go black. Gaming, I often get a GPU error or disconnect\crash. Is anyone else having this issue?

Make sure all the updates came from Dell Downloads which has all the necessary Dell customized drivers for the Dell board. Don't download desktop drivers from the original manufacturers like AMD, Intel, Nvidia, etc. That can cause the problems you're having. There should not be many updates on a brand new computer.

Hi @OR1GO welcome to this free user to user Alienware laptop discussion forum.
Within first 30 days there is option to reject a possibly defective Alienware m17 R5 AMD. Dell Refund policy, New vs Refurbished - Dell Community Please book your refund option asap.
Then the first year basic Dell warranty starts, so then you need to raise Service Requests to fix software and/or hardware problems.
Please visit your online Dell account to create Service Request so that Dell officially knows there is a problem to fix. Allow Dell Technical support to have online session to use their diagnostic tools to fix software problems and/or order parts to install on Alienware m17 R5 AMD.
You can run windows Reliability Monitor to create event timeline. Wait for timeline to be created and then look for GPU error or disconnect\crash events. Open these events to reveal the root cause, and Microsoft error codes. How to use Windows Reliability Monitor to identify software issues | Dell UK

Regrettably, I have done just this as it was my first response when it began crashing went through the entire system of dell recommended updates, ran them, and alas no success. I am still getting horrible stutter and blackouts on even youtube videos. It just doesn't like it. If I play a game or run some software I use for work like Unreal.

Have you tried troubleshooting in MyAlienware. Click on the Alien head icon on task bar, click on Support tab, Click on Troubleshoot, Click on I Want to Troubleshoot, Click on either Scan or Specific Piece. You can click on Specific Piece and select Memory Ram or CPU and it will do a deep scan.
You can also Click on the Home tab, Click on History tab, Re-click Home tab and select run all. Support Assist will check all hardware, software for issues.
Or last, click on find, type memory diagnostics, and run scan. The log will show if there is a Ram stick or mounting issue with Ram.

Hi friend I am really upset I have the same problem
I have Alienware m17 r5
6900hx + 3070ti
Everything updated + (with the latest bios)
But no use so I had to reinstall windows 11 again
I tested with a fresh stock windows 11 unfortunately I am still facing the same crashes again.
So After lots of waisted time & energy i cinda knew the problem
I downloaded HWinfo to see the temps while gaming
Please note : if you gaming without plugged in the adapter ( the Laptop is totally fine )
After pluggen in the adapter the temps gets high & the fan started to spinn fast
When the CPU reaches 80 & abov
& the GPU reaches 70 & above
The game freezes then error messeges pops out
" Dxgi error gpu driver hung " ← like that
Please see the pictures that I have upload
For like 95% of the games
now dell is there any solutions for this problem or I want my money back

Can I make the assumption that you did as I did and went to Nvidia's site to download your graphics driver updates? If this is what you did, I experienced the same problem but with the AMD Graphics version. Here's how I fixed it as I was getting graphics crashing and then switchable graphics just stopped working all together:: go to the Dell support website for your model and download the latest graphics driver from Dell for your applicable graphics card/CPU configuration. Download the third party software called DDU (direct driver uninstaller) and install it. It's free and completely safe (for the most part, unless you use it in a way it's not intended). Restart your computer in Safe Mode by pressing and holding the shift key and then going to the Power options and selecting Restart (you may need to disable Bitlocker/Drive Encryption in Windows to do this by clicking Settings>Privacy & Security>Device Encryption>Off). Click Advanced Tools and then select Change Start Up Behavior. Your device will restart in Safe Mode (your resolution or other layout may look different than normal, but this is fine as this disables a lot of programs/settings that may interfere with uninstallation). Open DDU where ever you installed it and go to Graphics>GPU: (name of your discrete GPU). Click Clean and make sure Reboot after uninstallation is finished option is checked. Allow the program to finish uninstalling the graphics drivers/software and reboot. Go to where you downloaded the graphics software for your laptop from Dell's website and install the software (you can click Factory Reset or Clean install option in advanced settings for installation if you want, but it's not necessary as you already did this with DDU). Hopefully, this should fix your problem.

I recently got the m17r5 with ryzen 9 / rtx 3080 and had blue screen of death for one error or another every now and then. I had a big problem when it wouldn't even post after august 2023 bios update from dell. I spent 2 days trying everything I could using online and the service manual, eventually got it started again with the fifth attempt on the rcv file. Now the blue screen just won't stop, I can't even load windows before a blue screen of death attacks. I tried disabling everything in the BIOS to do with security, I tried all the recovery ways, installing fresh windows on a fresh ssd, reseetng ram, omg everything.
