m15 R5, display black suddenly, only external monitor works

Question

My display suddenly went black while on normal use. An external monitor works fine -the power button is flashing 7 blue and 2 red. Any solutions to this? I've read that changing the display is not a solution.
BIOS update doesn't seem to be the cause either.
Please help Dell.

That flash code does indicate an LCD failure. You could open the system up and check to make sure the LCD cables are secure on the MB. If all looks well then an LCD replacement is in order especially if the external monitor works fine.

There's a few posts about this (including my own), if you suffered this issue after a windows update which forced a BIOS update along with it to 1.20 then unfortunately there's a high chance that you're going to need to send it in to DELL to fix.

Whatever you do, do not send them the laptop if you are out of warranty. Do not contact support if you are out of warranty. If they show an open ticket for the issue then it will be excluded from warranty service should you go ahead and reactivate your warranty. It's going to run you close to $300 out of pocket if you have to send it in for service since the only thing they will do is replace the motherboard and will not attempt (or are unable to) flash the BIOS back to a previous version or upgrade it to a working version.
