Area-51m R1, AWCC, missing picure of laptop

hi, so i updated my alienware command center the other day and it does not show the picture of my laptop anymore, i thought it is a little odd so i rolled back to a previous version and it fixed it, however, ad windows update and whatnot updated it again, now the problem's back, does anyone know how to fix it without rolling back? because rolling back has its own issues as the program kept on insisting on updating.

Hi again @Alienware Area-51 ALX 2006

I just downloaded and installed the october update of the AWCC, and I am happy to write that (at least on my end) it is fixed!

So for everyone else with the same problem reading this, I highly recommend updating to the october update of the AWCC.

Hi Crimsom, thank you for replying, unfortunately the problem is the same as last time, and as of right now i am already using the latest version windows 11. Apparently a dell rep is handling the awcc again, as such i am currently rolling my awcc back to the january update, which works just fine.

Hi @Theo999  welcome to this user to user discussion forum.

The AWCC update has only removed the laptop enclosure LED options from the AWCC FX tab?

Sometimes the AWCC and Windows Update do not coexist problem free. Please run Check Disk to find and fix any file integration problems on the OS(C:) boot drive.

The inherent problem with the AWCC application, is that it is not stand-alone. The most recent Windows 10 update is version 21H1. Microsoft say they are now going to provide two Window version updates every year, so expect 21H2 towards end of year. We know that Dell Technical Support is not fully supporting their flagship AWCC, so expect more AWCC incompatibility problems.

Hi @Theo999 - I have this exact same issue on my Alienware Area 51m r1 laptop. I have literally tried everything, including complete uninstalls of all Alienware software and full reinstalls of the latest versions. I keep Windows updated with the latest updates so perhaps they are just not aware of this issue. Luckily AWCC still functions... meaning I can set the lights up and change fan speeds. Hopefully a fix will come out soon. I submitted a ticket but it looks to me like all the standard procedures... none of which have helped.

hi @cosmicdust73 I have been in contact with dell reps for awhile now, they kept saying that they're awaiting reply for engineering team, so fingers crossed on that, but yeah, same here, did full reinstall and everything, still no luck.

Hi @Theo999  please install the Visual C++ Redistributable Runtimes All-in-One package from TechPowerUp. The AWCC update may want to use the most recent Visual C++ runtimes, but does not ask user to install. Hope that this is a fix for your problem.

Hi @crimsom thank you so much for replying, I have installed the all in one package as you suggested, sadly however to no avail, i did sent two videos as per requested by the dell reps one with the working may version, and another of the june update with the visual glitch. I very much appreciate your suggestion, thank you very much.

You even uninstalled the command center fully? And made sure no trace was found on the computer so you can install the oldest version and see if that works:

The most reliable way to remove all of the AWCC (and OC Controls), is to use Revo Uninstaller Free to remove AWCC and then Advanced Scan to remove all the remaining files, etc. Then Restart (not Shut Down), so that the AWCC version that was installed at the factory, can be installed as if for the first time.

hi @Alienware Area-51 ALX 2006 i did uninstalled the awcc fully, i followed the guide here How to Remove and Reinstall the Alienware Command Center | Dell US , still no luck, i did however reinstalled the may update of the awcc and it works quite well, with a bit of a problem, it kept re downloading the update everytime i open awcc, in which i would open task manager and end the upload download host of awcc, other than that, the may update works quite well so far, thanks.

I am also having this issue with my Area-51M. i9 9900k RTX2080.

I was initially having different issues with the OC Controls not working (overclocking and temperature controls). I tried to uninstall and reinstall everything as listed on another thread to no avail. Ultimately I did a complete restore of windows 10, which, FINALLY, resolved the OC Controls issue.

Now I am experiencing this problem where there is no laptop picture in the FX tab. This software is very very fragile and very broken and Dell/Alienware needs to get their stuff together and fix it.
