18 R1, and Davinci Resolve
Hi,
I have an 8 years old (I think) Alienware18 laptop, currently running Linux.
I wish to use it to run Davinci Resolve 18, Denhancer, stuff like that for editing videos. On Linux it is almost impossible to run Davinci on such a machine due to NVIDIA drivers problems.
Is it worth it to reinstall or send it to Dell to reinstall Windows so I can use Davinci Resolve 18, Denhancer?
Are the Alienware18 specs out of date to run latest Davinci?
Thank you.

Hi @Arnauld12 welcome to this free user-to-user Alienware laptop discussion forum.
Support for Alienware 18 R1 (7/02/2013) has reached End of Life (EOL) Dell warranty support. There is the $100 Dell Laptop Repair | Dell Repair | Laptop Repair | Notebook Service Center (parts-people.com).
You can download the online Windows installation iso file to install the Windows 10 version 22H2 64-bit iso. Windows 10 22H2 ISO Files Direct Download Links (itechtics.com). The Windows 10 Professional 64-bit Product Key can be purchased on eBay. Try discounted CJS CD Keys - Buy Cheap CD Keys and Serials (cjs-cdkeys.com).
Install Windows Updates then Dell Drivers & Downloads, followed by GeForce Experience drivers.
Advocate install maximum RAM Memory, look at Alienware 18 Specifications. Also look at public database Alienware Alienware 18 | Memory RAM & SSD Upgrades | Crucial.com.
Look at system requirements to run Davinci Resolve 18, Denhancer, stuff like that for editing videos. You may find purchase of discounted modern system is the better option. Please look at Refurbished & Overstock Laptops, PCs, Monitors: Dell Outlet | Dell USA | Dell USA and Shop: Dell Site Map of All Products, Solutions & Services | Dell USA.

Any reinstallation is up to you -- Dell won't touch a system this old, even with paid service.
All but the GPU should be current enough to run that software -- check with them to make sure the GPU you have is supported (you haven't mentioned which GPU you have).

Why Windows 10 and not 11? Sorry, I have been using Linux for years now...and the last time I used windows was 8 years ago.

Windows 11 is not supported by Microsoft on this system -- the CPU is too old. Only the 8th generation and newer Core CPUs are supported (and a very few late model 7th generation).
This system has a third-generation CPU.
