17 R4, motherboard replacement
Alienware 17 R4
Hey guys, I've had my laptop in to our local computer shop because it just stopped on me. I had a good look inside and found that one of the mosfet diodes are burned out. The guys at the pc shop say they have spoken with dell and were unable to fix the issue. i was curious how much a new motherboard would be as i can just do the work myself. please let me know.

The price will depend on the CPU and GPU onboard -- and whether you need any other parts; figure on $300 for an i5/low end GPU to upwards of $1,000 for a high end CPU/GPU -- you may also want to compare the price of a complete used system, which may not be much more than the cost of a board alone.

You can use the Dell part#'s to find them on eBay or Aliexpress since parts-people don't seem to have any stock.
A decent laptop repairer should be able to replace a mosfet though, as long as it hasn't done too much damage to surrounding components.
