15 R3, bulging and cracking at touchpad

I have had this laptop for 3 years. The warranty expired on February 9, 2019. The laptop itself is working just fine, however it started to swell at the touchpad and develop cracks on the left side of the touchpad. How could this be fixed? This just seems very dangerous. I am afraid of it catching fire or even exploding. Although It is out of warranty, for $2300 that I paid, this should not be happening.

The battery needs to be removed -- and disposed of outside your home or office, immediately.

It it has swollen to the point where the touchpad is cracked, you'll need to replace not only the battery but also the palm rest assembly.

Here is the 15 R3 Service Manual.
