NVMe PCIe drive installation

I have a new R6 and I would like to install a NVMe PCIe SSD, specifically Plextor M8PeY, for use as a fast data drive for gaming programs and files. I do not plan to use this drive to boot from.  When installed, the BIOS does not recognize the drive so neither does Windows. Alienware Support Assist utility does know that the SSD is installed. How can I make this work?

Hi,

Do you show the drive in the Disk Management Utility? You can open this utility from the Windows start menu.

Now it is showing and allowing me to format...

Okay!  I've got a new drive.

Thanks for the Disk Management Utility suggestion.  I haven't had to mess with that for many years.  Strange that Plextor's support person couldn't have suggested that.

It does not show in Disk Management Utility, only my SSD Boot drive and HDD

For sure because that is pretty basic stuff.

Glad you accomplished what you set-out to do. However, the Aurora-R6 would be much faster and generally "snappier" with the Windows-OS installed on and booting from the M.2-NVMe SSD. If 256gb or larger, it will also hold all your "programs" and a fair amount of games.

It is booting from the M.2 drive, and I am using that for many of my core programs (MS Office, Photoshop, Lightroom, etc), but I have to admit that I do acquire too many games and I wanted a bit more space dedicated to that. This Plextor drive is also NVMe and mounted on the PCIe bus and not SATA, so it is plenty fast.

1. Oh, ok. On the motherboard. Good ... that's all I wanted to mention since you obviously like speed and performance.

2. Oh, right ... on a PCIe Add-in card and then inserted into one of the lower PCIe slots, huh. Good idea.
