No power to HD, Keyboard and Mouse and Power button, Alien head do not light up
Hi all,
I have the R2 Aurora with Win7 Home Premium. I have been having a terrible time installing the OS, but just recently lost power to HD, KB, mouse and the power button and alien head does not light up. All of the fans activate, there are no beeps and the Power supply shows a continual green light, so that seems to be okay. I'm thinking that there is a loose/disconnected wire issue here. Any other ideas? Does this sound like a few hours of dismantling and IDing the loose or disconnect wiring?
Thank you all!

Hi alien-skeptic2013,
Apologies for the inconvenience caused. Try releasing the residual charge from the system. Here are the steps:
Also, run power supply BIST (Built In Self Test). To run PSU BIST ensure the power cable is plugged in to the PSU and just press the button near the LED on the PSU. If the LED glows solid green then the PSU is good.
If possible try running the diagnostics to confirm hardware functionality. Here are the steps:
If the issue still continues, it appears to be an issue with the motherboard and replacement may be required. If you are comfortable dis-assembling and re-assembling the parts, you may try that as well. Please refer to the Service Manual of this system for instructions on assembling and dis-assembling the hardware components. Follow the 'Safety Guidelines' listed on the manual to help protect your computer from potential damage and to help ensure your own personal safety.
Hope this helps. Please reply if you have any questions.

Hi,
Thank you! I did as you suggested. The PS indicator was a constant green and when I press the BIST button, the HD indicator does flash, but only then. Once I try to power on normally, no power to mouse, keyboard and the HD indicator does not flash. The alien head does not turn on.
No power to them. Shall I continue checking to see if its connection to those components or that the motherboard is faulty?
Thanks.

Hi alien-skeptic2013,
You may try reseating the components as one of the logical step, if the issue still persists you may consider replacing the motherboard. If the system is within warranty, please share the system's Service Tag and Owner's Name with me via private message (click my username and then click Send a Private Message).
If the system is not under warranty anymore, you may refer to the link http://dell.to/1coLzuz to get in touch with the Dell's Expired Warranty Support team if you are in USA. If you are in a different region, go to http://dell.to/15qqGcr select the country/region from the top, scroll down and click on 'Contact Dell Sales' to get the contact information.
Please reply if you have any questions.

Well, replaced the MB as suggested by Dell support and same problem. No power to HD, power button, mouse, keyboard or alien head. Could it be the Master IO board?

Okay. Discovered something new.
When I turn on the computer with only the KB and mouse, the alien head lights up. But still no power to KB or mouse or HD.
When I plugin the monitor. Nothing. Not even the alien head lights up. This has to be the PS, right? But the indicator doesn't show that there's a problem with the PS.
Any ideas?

Hi alien-skeptic2013,
Thank you for sharing the update. Before replacing any other parts on the system, I would suggest you to test the system with a good known alternate power supply to rule out any possibility of power supply being faulty.
Keep me updated with the results.
