clicking noise when plugging in laptop
I have the green light on the power supply lit. It goes out as soon as you plug it into the lap top and makes a clicking noise in the laptop.
I was using it the other night, heard a "click" and the laptop shut off instantly. From my reading it seems it could be a diode inside the laptop that went bad or the power connection inside the laptop is toast.
Tried plugging it in without the battery in and same result. Battery has no charge which is odd as it was plugged in at the time this happened.
Any suggestions on if this could be the issue and if so, is it worth trying to repair it?
Alienware M18x R2, i7 quadcore, 32 gb ram, dual 670M video cards. purchased in 2012. Runs great would hate to have to replace it.

Hi,
It sounds like a possible motherboard failure, we recommend sending it in for repairs. You could try doing a power drain to see if you can get it to post, follow the steps below to do a power drain.
