Can't get PS4 to work on M17x HDMI

I recently bought a new PS4 during the black friday bundle sales and I learned that you could use the HDMI cable to plug into the Alienware M17x laptop and play on it. The cable is in working brand new condition that I've tried it on my living room HDTV, but when I connect it to my M17x it shows the "HDMI IN" screen and proceeds normally, but it doesn't project a visual feed just a blank black screen. I can hear sounds perfectly so no issues with the audio just the Visual display.
