AW3423DWF, DDM not showing HDR Options under Color

Hey,

I am using Windows11 with an AMD graphics card (6800 XT) and the newest firmware for the monitor(M3B102) and DDM 2.0.0.135

I am trying to set up HDR: SmartHDR is active and also HDR in Win11. In the DDM I can for example set the profile to DisplayHDR or HDR Peak 1000. But if I want to set Color -> Auto, I only have the different sdr profiles to choose from.

Is there a solution to showing the correct HDR profiles under the color tab?

I also encountered lagging and blackscreens for some seconds sometimes when going into and out of fullscreen youtube videos with SmartHDR enabled. It seems the monitor is trying to switch unsuccessfully to sdr in that time or something similar. I can reproduce it easily when going in and out of fullscreen for like 10-20 times it will happen at least once. Maybe the problems are connected.

Thanks in advance!

I attached the screenshots from my DDM:

It's weird, because the DDM is working for switching between the SmartHDR modes but still showing the SDR profiles under the color tab. I tried installing the older Version of DDM (doesn't work with this monitor), .134 and .138 beta -> no difference, same problem as with the .135 version.

At least the blackscreens I could find the problem, it only occurs if I switch under the color tab from Manual to Auto (even if on Auto both Desktop and UWP Application stay on "Standard" profile). It seems DDM tries to switch to this sdr Standard profile then. Now I let it stay on Manual with the "Standard" profile and that doesn't happen anymore. So these problems are connected.

Is there any possibility to force DDM to show HDR profiles in the drop-down menu instead of the wrong sdr profiles?

I have my monitor set to smart HRD 400 True black at the monitor menu and have Windows set to HDR mode. DDM shows the correct HDR versions.

I do use Windows 10 rather than Windows 11, and I have no issues with any black screen or switching modes when viewing Youtube or other videos.

When you set the Windows desktop to HDR mode and the monitor to HDR mode it should stay in HDR mode.

I have the exact problem. Using rx 6950 xt latest driver and newest ddm. I also have major problem using Windows 11 HDR calibration tool to create a HDR color profile. Using the slider to set black level etc the amd driver times out and often crashes totally meaning I have to reboot.

I just reinstalled Windows 11 but the problem persist.

It does not do that with mine. When the monitor and desktop are set to HDR mode, it should stay in HDR mode regardless of DDM selections.

You can check the HDR mode using the OSD menu from the monitor. If you go to game and then select a preset mode, a message will show up telling you it's currently in HDR mode and it cannot switch until you stop playing back HDR content. the HDR content here is the desktop HDR mode set under Windows, which will apply HDR mode to everything that is displayed using the desktop.

I uninstalled Dell display manager and HDR is working now on my system. Seems like Amd drivers with this Dell Display manager is not working correctly.

Ah that could be possible. I am using an Nvidia card.

I am experiencing the same issues when using an AMD 6900xt.

Purchased an Alienware AW3423DWF (firmware M3B102) and running the latest version of Dell Display Manager 2.0.0.135 on Windows 11.

I have no issues creating and using auto SDR profiles; however, it will not allow me to select Auto HDR profiles when HDR is running. All of the options presented are SDR profiles.

There are many other AMD users who are experiencing the exact same issue.

Troubleshooting tested:

  1. Complete reinstall of Windows 11.

  2. Installation of Dell Monitor Driver

  3. Reinstall of AMD latest drivers using DDU

  4. Changed Display Cables

  5. All Nvidia users indicate that it works for them in other threads (see comments here)

There's a new version out of DDM that might address this issue, based on the change log.

Fixes & Enhancements

Fixes:
- Fixed the issue where the hotkey function is not working when using the Japanese keyboard.
- Fixed the issue where the auto color preset does not work in some desktop and Universal Windows Platform (UWP) applications.

This is not exactly related to your issue, but I would keep the date in mind as there might be other fixes issued. My HDR looks even better than before with the below work around.

Washed out color when using HDR

The following settings can be changed for a workaround to this issue. You can use either workaround as both are not needed.

  • Turn on Source Tone Map: Open the monitors On Screen Display (OSD), go to Game -> Console Mode -> Source Tone Map
  • Use Display HDR True Black: Open the monitors OSD, go to Display -> Smart HDR -> DisplayHDR True Black

A permanent solution with a new firmware update is currently under development with an ETA around middle February 2023.

Hey.

When using Console mode and HDR , this crashes my AMD driver totally. Have to reinstall clean installation of amd driver.

HDR works fine without Console mode

And in Console mode I cannot change tone mapping. Its grayed out.

So when you have HDR enable in Windows and under HDR Color profile you have some kind of default? Where do you get that. If I dont run hdr calibrarion appliction this will just be blank for me.

Best regards

I use a color profile created with Windows 11 HDR calibration app with black level 0 and rest set to 510/510
