Aurora R7, swap to new Aurora R9-12 case?
I see several posts about moving internals to custom/aftermarket cases. Has anyone attempted moving older Aurora to new Aurora cases. I know it’s a funny concept as everyone wants to run away from the flaws in case design.
I just recently picked up an Aurora R7 and see several of the newer cases gutted for sale and I was curious?
Give an older unit a fresh look.

Re: I just recently picked up an R7 and see several of the newer cases gutted for sale and I was curious
the reasons why these proprietary cases are gutted for sale is probably because these cases are very difficult to reuse for newer motherboard. R5-12 case power switch is embedded in proprietary led multi pin controller. The Pwr sw pinout varies between models. Note R9-12 uses gen 3 chassis that has completely different led design from gen 2 chassis of R5-8. Even if someone manages to power on R7 board inside a R9-12 case, or vice versa power on R9-12 board inside a R7 case, led is most likely going to be unlit.
user report of Pwr sw pinout of white 12 pin motherboard header (from left): not verified.
R5 ?
R6 pin 3 and 4.
R7 pins 3 and 4
R8 pins 4 and 5
R9 pin 3 and 4.
R10 pins 4 and 5
R11 pin 4 and 8.
R12 ?
PS R5-7 cases rear I/O shield are not removable.

In essence, you will only change the appearance, you will not get any benefit from it, as the basis of the PC case is identical.
It would certainly be possible, but as I write, it doesn't make sense if you're only concerned with appearance!

Thanks for the reply, it would be mainly for aesthetics. I was curious about standoffs, case Wiring, and of course, motherboard backplate/IO shield.
Never having an Alienware before as I have always created custom builds. Figured I’d try something different for fun.

Awesome that was my concern, ideally the thought behind it was I am potentially grabbing a water cooler and have noticed some bare-bones units coming with those units at a price slightly higher then that of just the water cooler.
I haven’t taken possession of the R7 yet as FedEx dropped the ball on delivery. I noticed the heatsink design is still the same heatsink I even use in my OptiPlex 7040 Unraid server.
I appreciate the insightful info on the pin and controller for power and RGB.
I’ll Test thermals on the i5 and future i7 8700 I plan on dropping in with fresh noctua thermal paste and go from there.
