Aurora R6, upgrade, CPU & GPU

Hi,
I have a liquid cooled Aurora R6 Intel Core i7-770K CPU. I'm thinking about upgrading the CPU and GPU.
I'm looking at the new Intel Core i9-10940X and a GEFORCE RTX 2070 SUPER.

My question is: is the current motherboard (07HV66) compatible with the new components listed above? If not, what type of motherboard do I have to buy?

Thanks in advance,
Julio

You already have the highest CPU supported on your system.

That GPU wouldn't be a good option if you have the oem 460 w psu.

You need an x299 motherboard for 10th gen intel extreme cpus.

@Anonymous I didn't think about that.
So in a nutshell the upgrade is not worth it, it would be better to buy an Aurora R8 with RTX 2070 SUPER.

What if I buy just the GPU? Can I install it plug and play without upgrading case, PSU and motherboard?

Thanks

If you are considering spending potentially thousands of $$$ on a CPU, graphics card, and motherboard, also consider spending a couple hundred $$ on a new case and PSU.

Good point, as there is no retail motherboard available on the market that will be plug and play with your Aurora case.  You would need to do custom modifications to get it working; including cutting off a back metal part of the case and rewiring the power button and LEDs.

10th Gen Comet Lake S and Z490 are expected to come out in a matter of weeks, which would render the R8 and R9 end of life and non-upgradeable as far as the processor is concerned.  Shortly after this, Dell will have to release the next gen Aurora on the 400 series chipset, and you should be able to find great deals on the R8 and R9.

The 2070S comes in different sizes, not all will fit in your case.  You should look for one around 10.5" x 4.5", with a single blower fan for best compatibility.  The 7700K + 2070S on a 460W psu is not a good idea.  Could result in BSOD and random restarts.

Ok thanks for the info guys.
Just to tell you the story behind these questions: I work in a company owning a bunch of Aurora R6 and we're searching the right components in order to upgrade them. We were thinking about CPU & GPU boost without changing the case but as @r72019 said we have the highest CPU supported on the system, so, based on your replies, if we want to pursue that road we need to change also Motherboard, PSU and case.

But I want to be stubborn, so my next question is:
are there any mATX motherboards, GPUs and PSUs compatible with our Aurora R6 case?

Thanks a lot for your help, much appreciated.

mATX motherboards - R8 motherboard works without RGB but it is so expensive!

GPUs - blower style. Do not exceed 268mm in length. Depends on your motherboard. We've gone all the way to 2080 Ti and someone here has done some Titans too (but not latest).

PSUs - the PSU swing arm bracket supports a long 180mm PSU (850W Delta) so basically most Corsairs/ Seasonics work as long as you keep it within the dimensions of that bracket. Get at least 850W modular. Saves you headache in the future.

Sorry guys, I sold off that R6 casing I had so there's no way for me to test my R8 system in the R6 casing anymore. However, I did manage to do that a few months ago when the R8 was being cut open with a dremel and everything was working except for the RGB lighting. I can't remember if I used the R8 or R6 power and USB headers but it should be identical except for the type-C USB.

If you're in an office with R6s, would it make sense to reach out to Dell to see if a business-style procurement can be made so that everything gets upgraded and supported for a nominal fee?
