Aurora R13, what cable do I need for extra HDD?

Just ordered an Alienware Aurora R13 and want to install another HDD to run macOS on it. What cable do I need to complete the addition? Should I run a SSD or a regular HDD. Tia.

not supported by Dell on any Alienware PC. DELL-Admin>

Yes. MacOS is not designed to run on any other hardware besides Apple products. Running MacOS on a PC is often referred to online as a "hackintosh". Reason being is it requires a bunch of pre-boot things to run on a PC if you want to run it natively.

This in turn requires specific hardware that has to work with the pre-boot environment and with drivers supported by MacOS.

The R13 is not designed for any of that so chances are high you will run into issues trying to run it natively. Typically  someone who is interested in running MacOs on a PC would purchase very specific hardware that is known to properly work.

Now if you are planning on running it as a virtual machine that is a different story and should work fine on an R13 if the image is properly made.

Forgot to add that if you do run it natively alongside Windows, it will use the GRUB boot manager and you have to be extra careful not to misconfigure it as it will cause your system to become unbootable.

It's in the R13 service manual: R13 service manual

You have a 3.5" or 2.5" option. I would suggest 2.5" SATA SSD. If you are planning on running MacOS, be aware that is not supported on an R13 and might or might not work.

SATA data cable  . . . depending on location you may want a 90 degree connector on one end.

would there be a specific reason it wouldn't work?

Awesome man, I appreciate the answers. didn't even know about the VM for macOS. I'll give that a try first before going the Hackitosh way. Saved me money on a hdd and cable. thanks brother.
