Aurora R13, sometimes won't shut down

Alienware Aurora R13

Alienware Aurora R13

Brand new Aurora R13 sometimes won't shut down. At night I will try to shutdown it briefly goes through the process but quickly goes to the login screen. When this happens the only way for me to shut down is to restart the computer, then shut down, this almost always will work on the first try but sometimes a second restart and shut down are needed. No idea why this happens. It's a bit annoying but at least it will shut down eventually. I am worried it is a symptom of some sort of other problem.

Any suggestions for fixing this would be appreciated. Oh and the latest BIOS update was installed recently and did not fix the problem.

Check Reliability History report for any critical/red errors during usage-period (that should be address anyway) and also near Shut-Down time.

Sounds like it might be crashing on Shut-Down (and set to Reboot in even of crash). With UEFI and bootable NVMe SSD, it can reboot very fast.

If it is crashing on Shut-Down and Windows isn't catching any errors, maybe try turning-OFF Fast-Startup. That way, it's not trying to save the Hibernation-like file it creates (so then, one less thing happening at Shut-Down).

Will not power down, or will not go to sleep mode?

Will not power down.  I click on shut down, it starts the process, but then the login screen for my pin comes back up.  If I restart the computer, once it restarts I can almost always then shut down

I did find another similar problem to mine and used the Dell Accepted Solution on my computer.

that is the link to the other post with the Dell Accepted Solution there as well.  My deep sleep mode did have S4 and S5 enabled.  I have disabled them and so far have been able to shut down 3 times with no problem.  Will see if that lasts or not.

Okay so checked that reliability history.  First there were all kinds of awcc stopped working but did a search on that and apparently it's just the way it operates.  I noticed that there were no reports or errors for windows shutting down...however the next morning when I turned the computer on I got a report that windows was not shut down properly.

However, today since I disabled the deep sleep mode for s4 and s5, I have been able to shut down my computer more than a dozen times with no problem.  It begins the process and I get the little circle that says shutting down and after a few seconds it shuts down.  On that history that I was looking at I have no reports of windows not being shut down properly.  So the dozen or so shut downs I did today worked properly and generated no report.  I think the disabling of the deep sleep mode (I gave the link above to the original post that had that solution) actually fixed the problem whatever it was.

The original solution about the deep sleep mode did not last.  However, turning off the fast startup did work, have had no more problems since turning off fast startup

Never getting one of these again. Used to be a huge fan of Alienware, my X-51 lasted a decade without a single problem. Fast forward to my Aurora and its an absolute. Never works properly (slow whenever you turn it on for the first 5 hours) and now whenever I try and restart or power down it just sits in limbo for hours until I am forced to manually shut it down. Absolutely terrible machine eap when you consider the close to $3000 price tag. What a joke.
