Aurora R13, HDD disappears after waking up from sleep
This is a Toshiba 4TB HDD (hard disk drive) not showing up in This PC and in Device Manager. My other two M.2 drives and the 2.5" SATA SSD drive are fine. It is only the 3.5" HDD that disappears. Rebooting it comes back. I only use the HDD for archiving and back up so rebooting is just an inconvenience. For others, it maybe a serious issue.
Researching shows this to be a common problem. This problem is not exclusive to any computer brand, any HDD brand, or to Windows 10 & 11. I contacted Toshiba and their Engineers are aware about the issue. So far, no workaround. Others tried Window re-install, playing with Bios, changing out hardware but to no avail.
Dell support suggest swapping the HDD to the SATA SSD connections to see if that will work. Although a long shot, do you think there is any possibility cabling maybe a cause?

That is a good idea from Dell support. It seems the 3.5 hdd power or data connection is suspended during sleep and could not properly wake up softly unless you apply a hard reset or restart. To test this hypothesis, remove the 3.5 and connect the 3.5 power/data cables to the 2.5. If problem recurs, it is proof. It 2.5 does not disappear while on same cables 3.5 was using, then it is the 3.5 hdd itself that fell in a deep sleep or coma that requires a hard resurrection. It is not normal but hopefully by this test you can narrow down the bad player.

I've never seen this on any machine unless I have a hardware problem, flakey drive, cabling problem, or maybe something is mis-configured.
Good suggestion from @redxps630 ... be sure it is powered by a SATA power cable meant to be used by a system drive.
Personally, I question the need to use Sleep on a desktop (this is not a laptop after all). Usually, much better to turn the Windows desktop On to use it, turn it Off before you go to bed. Easy-peasy.
If you must use Sleep, maybe try disabling Hybrid Sleep. Also, not sure why anyone would use a weird partition type like "Storage Spaces" but apparently some do. It should instead be partitioned and formatted (normally) as a Simple Volume.

I swapped out the two drives and the Toshiba HDD is the problem. Cables are fine since the SATA SSD is showing up where the Toshiba resided. I will contact Toshiba and I am still within the 30 day return window to return back to Amazon.

Spoke to Toshiba and they said to swap out with another X300. The support tech said this often works, somehow one drive does this yet another of the same model works fine. Does not appear to be computer related, just the software within the drive.
