Aurora R13, additional second SSD

Hi,

I have an AW Aurora R13. It has 1x M.2 2280 SSD (1TB and is boot drive.) + 2TB 3.5 inch drive. I want to add a second SSD M.2. 2280 SSD which it states that I can do as per the specifications documentation. I have contacted Dell Support to clarify but have been told it only has one SSD slot so I am unable to add a second SSD.

I'm confused can anyone clarify please.

The specs are correct and the service manual here has the information on installing SSD 1 and SSD2.

JOcean is spot on.

The following images indicate the location of the 2280 solid-state drive that is installed in SSD slot two and slot one and provide a visual representation of the installation procedure.

According to the manual, there is another part needed for the drive installation. There is a peel and stick thermal pad that gets installed on the motherboard for both the 2230 and the 2280 form factor drives. You can clearly see the blue thermal pad underneath the drive in the manual illustrations. Looking at my MB, there is no thermal pad installed in the empty ssd slot 2. The service manual states that this pad does not ship with the drive and is a separate serviceable part. I do not see such a pad listed for the R13. The only thermal pads I see on the Dell web site are for laptops and they include a metal bracket. That is not the part mentioned in the manual. Given the overall heat issue in the R13 case, I would think that this would be a good thing to have. Is there a part number somewhere for it and is it available to order?

From the picture, it looks like a 20x30x5.25 thermal pad.  But, you may not be able to order from Dell.  Get SSD with heatsink instead.
