Aurora R12, 15° Core Temp between Command Center and HWinfo

I have a 15 C Core temperature difference between Command Center and HWinfo -

Anybody know why that might be.

Idle at Command Center - 62

Idle at HWinfo 47

It varies but it's always about 15C different. My computer is cool to the touch on top. When it's running correctly without throttling, I always have some warmth. The sides are cold, and the top is about room temp.

Can I get the command center to synch. They have a new Bios, but it doesn't show up in my support assist downloads. It has the same version number, but I think it 1.1.24 2/24. Mine is.

BIOS Version/Date Alienware 1.1.24, 12/20/2023

@rhellstrom6e8920   is you CPU air cooled or liquid cooled? Either way, it may be time for a re-paste.

33C for GPU at idle is about right, so is 44C for hot spot on the GPU.

You just want to monitor them once in a while to ensure they don't go above 70C or so.

I know even 70C is well within specs, but I personally prefer to stay at or below 70C when gaming.

I'm not exactly sure to what 'Core temperature' refers, but based on your reported idle temps I would hope you can get Command Center to sync with HWinfo.

I am assuming this is CPU temperature measurements?

If so, check hotspot temperature in HWinfo and see if that matches up better with Command Center.

I'm not sure which Alienware model OP has, but I have not seen an AWCC that reported hot spot CPU temps, just overall package temp . . . and 62C at idle would not be good at all. Even 47C at idle is a hot CPU unless ambient is on the equator.

EDIT: Looks like photos has stopped working.

I kind of presumed the core temperature of the CPU was what I was looking for.

Temps read by the Digital Thermal Sensor.

Should I derive this number from another listing.

The CPU Package and CPU IA Cores are about 5 degrees hotter now and can vary. Sometimes they're the same and sometimes it's hotter. Is there something else that can reflect that hotspot temp?

The GPU hot spot temp is a little hotter as well.

Command Center shows 33 C for the GPU - HWinfo shows a 33 Temp and a 44.3 C Hotspot Temperature.

I'd take a 47 C for a R12 Alienware.  When I checked the temps at idle, they were always close to that 45- 47 C range, but I didn't monitor them. I was content.

Something happened and I I thought the top fan speed had been lowered in the thermal and performance settings. but I couldn't swear to it. I'm not real sure what to do next. My fans are running at speeds of CPU 80 percent top and Top 74 percent. I guess I could crank them on up. I've had it for several years and it's always performed well and was quiet and pretty cool.

Balanced Tab

CPU Fan - 32 percent

Top Fan - 18 percent

Performance Tab Default

CPU Fan 35 percent

Top Fan 15 percent

The package temp is the one they suggest you watch in HWinfo. Now it makes sense. There's only a one-degree temperature change from the command center.

Actually, they noted it was the core max that I should be watching in their forum. I presume that would be in the DTS column. That's for the correct temp. I was watching the CPU Package in the Intel Core I7 Enhanced column. I have an offset in the CPU Package noted in these two columns. I just downloaded the program the other day.

it says that this issue is solved, but I'm still not sure how command center gets its values versus how HWinfo does. I'm also getting around a 10° Discrepancy. Also, what does command center even mean when it talks about the temperature of a "zone?" Where are these temperatures being measured? Top, mid, side zones… What are these? Is there some other DTS that can only be accessed through proprietary command center? I guess it's not all that important. I really don't use AWCC unless I just want a different color on my machine. I've used HWinfo for years. If it's good enough for NASA it's good enough for me.

@Kcp30228 The fan icon doesn't show up in my R12 Alienware, in the HWinfo software. I guess they don't support the system. You can keep track of the GPU and CPU temps in the command center but HWinfo does note the hot spot for the GPU. The core max should note the same temp as the command center. It's usually right on or a few degrees variable. Always really close though. The fans are idle in a video card to about 60 degrees or so.

@rhellstrom6e8920 a temperature sensor is a temperature sensor! I've used three different third-party apps to give me CPU temperature. All three of them were exactly the same. ACC temperatures are WILDLY different. So how in the world are these numbers different?

It's interesting that you said you don't see the fan icon in HWInfo. I can see it on my 17 R 4 laptop, but I never fiddled with it.
