Aurora R10, use R12 cable, remove 3.5" HDD, add 2.5" SSD

Hello, checking whether I can swap the 3.5" HDD for a 2.5" SATA SSD in an Alienware Aurora Ryzen Edition R10. The two additional 2.5" drive bays are already occupied with Samsung SSD SATA drives: a 2TB 860 SSD and and a 4TB 870 SSD. The work I'm doing requires all SSD drives.

I'm assuming all I would need, besides the new drive & cable, would be some kind of adapter to adapt the 3.5" plastic cage to a 2.5" cage. Thanks!

Something like this will work. The caddy's are tool-less so it should be pretty easy.

I have an Alienware Aurora Ryzen Edition R10. I previously installed an SSD drive in each of the 2.5” drive cages, powering them using the Dell-supplied R10 split cable assembly (Dell part # 0G2GX9.)

Now I’m swapping out the supplied 3.5” HDD drive for another 2.5” SSD drive, which is going into the 3.5” cage.

Question: Is it safe to power the new 2.5” SSD SATA drive (going into the 3.5” cage) with the existing Dell-supplied R12 cable assembly (Dell part # 0GMNGY)?

I'm hesitant to use the R12 cable assembly (presumably designed to power a 3.5” HDD drive) with the new 2.5” SSD SATA drive since I have no idea how the R12 cable is pinned out.

I’m guessing I’ll have to order an additional Dell R10 cable assembly (part # 0G2GX9.) That said, I have to wait until Monday to call Dell since the power cables assemblies on their website don’t specify part numbers. Thanks!

Yes, it is safe to use SATA power connector for 3.5" HDD to power a 2.5" HDD/SSD.  A 15-pin SATA power connector is standard for all internal SATA HDD and SSD, 3.5" and 2.5".

The different in Dell part number was only matter to the connector end to motherboard header.
