Aurora R10, Power Supply Replacement
I just ordered my custom ryzen edition, I was informed dell ships their computers with E-Star or Huntkey 1000W power supplies. I am wanting to immediately swap that out with a well known brand such as Corsair or Evga 850W 80 plus Gold to avoid to risk of having a cheap power supply fry the components inside the system (rtx 3080, ryzen 7 3800xt)
Will most Full Modular 850W be compatible for the replacement or is it really specific based on the wiring layout?
Thanks in advance!

You may find the above link to a post in this forum helpful. There is nothing inherently wrong with Dell/Alienware power supplies, some like a little more head room if they are planning are overclocking everything, especially if they are running SLI video cards. Choose wisely before you start pulling things apart.

Never found anything wrong with the dell powers supplies I have seen so far, my previous dell computer had power supply made by Flextronic. But ,I always buy higher end dell computers. The one I've got now is a 80+gold 550w
I would not call the R10 PSU cheap .

If that Dell/Alienware 1000 watt power supply had been available for my Aurora R9, I would have had enough faith in its quality that I would not have bothered to upgrade to a 1500 watt "third party" PSU.
Having said that, I presume the Dell 1000 watt is certified the same as the 850 watt: 80 Plus Gold, whereas my Dark Power Pro 12 is 80 Plus Titanium...so I save a little on electricity and generate a little less heat with the additional efficiency. But I paid more money up front for those savings.
You make your choices, you spend your money. It's yours to spend.

Agreed, this guy is wasting his money. Unless he isn't meeting requirements cooling wise (which IK Dell would not put a 1000W without proper cooling) he is wasting money and downgrading, and paying for it.

While it's true that you shouldn't choose a psu based on its certification rating, it is also true there are other things to consider besides wattage. For example, not too long ago there was a batch of Gigabyte psu's that were actually failing & going out with a tiny explosion lol! This was not just a few bad ones, it was the entire batch being offloaded on a popular online store in pre built units (NOT Dell or Alienware) Gigabyte was finally persuaded to fix the issue & reimburse those effected by the failed units after being called out publicly several times by a popular YouTube gaming channel with WAAAAAAAAAAY too many subscribers to be able to afford ignoring the issue, lol. So the lesson here it's that no, swapping the 1000 watt psu for an 850 watt psu is not always a downgrade, AND the efficiency ratings & certifications are not indicative of a unit's total quality.

1. Huntkey-made units are fine. The Delta-made units are just as good as Corsair. Dell also uses Deltas in their high-end Precision Workstations.
2. swapping 1000w (that you paid extra for) for a common 850w PS ?
3. No

Also, EVGA doesn't make their own PSUs. You need to research the specific EVGA model, and iteration. Many of them are low/budget quality units, it's not all just based on brand name recognition. They are not the same. For example, the EVGA G5 850W Gold is an FSP model, and definitely not a high quality PSU. The EVGA 850W G2/3 Gold is Superflower, and G6 Gold is Seasonic.
