Aurora R10, list of supported video cards?

Hello,

Is there a list of supported video cards for the Aurora R10? I was given an Aurora without a video card and put mine in, but it doesn't seem to work (it is an older video card). I am looking for the lowest end video card that the machine will support (I won't be doing any gaming). Very much appreciate any help you can provide - either suggestions for a card or the list of supported cards.

Thanks

@Alexjeff  Please press the blue Accept as Solution button below if this post answers your question.

Non Dell cards will require clearing cmos and secure boot OFF.

DELL OEM Radeon R7 250 2GB DDR3 PCIe DVI DP Video Card FDT1K 9C8C0

works just fine, isn't sketchy, and works without any bios settings needing to be changed.

This one also works fine but its a lot more expensive.

You are faster than me.  I was typing that a low end card even lower than GT 730 is GT 710.  It is supported in R10 too.

If you need another evidence that GT 730 is supported in R10,

”I have Big Sur 11.4 running just fine on an Alienware R10. I'm using my ancient geforce 730 1GB until my RX 6900 XT is delivered.”

You can also get some more detailed information from this link:

Graphics card for Alienware desktops

Be aware due to BIOS settings, the card must support the UEFI environment in order to access the BIOS and change any settings related to compatibility with older hardware.

If you get a black screen, it is typical because it is either not supported by the UEFI boot environment, or it requires compatibility turned on in the BIOS. (Which you cannot access unless the video card works and it defaults to UEFI, so even with a reset of the BIOS you will end up with the same issue.)

That would be perfect , but that website looks super sketchy - you familiar with them by any chance?

Thanks

MSI Gaming GeForce GT 710 2GB GDRR3 64-bit HDCP Support DirectX 12 OpenGL 4.5 Single Fan Low Profile Graphics Card (GT 710 2GD3 LP)

before you decide the gt710 is not good, the black screen no video issue can also be a No POST issue meaning gpu is good but system does not POST. In that case no gpu will help.

If you have verified gt 710 works in another pc, then you may need to clear CMOs settings to try solve a No POST situation.

Definitely works in another PC

Ill try clearing the CMOS tomorrow - are there any unintended consequences that can occur by doing so?

Thanks

By “Clear CMOs” you should expect all bios settings go back to default.  If you had set up the bios before to any custom settings,  they will be gone.  You may not intend to have this but it will happen after CMOs is cleared.

It is a standard procedure, but touching the components on motherboard scares some people.  You should of course follow standard anti static precautions.  If you are sure GT710 is good, then I would suggest wait until GT 730 arrives.  If that also gives no video, then you can decide if you want to proceed.

Interesting- I ordered that card -will the computer boot right up?

one follow up question please - if I change those settings, would a GTX 1060 work in the machine?  I have a friend in the same predicament and she has a 1060

Thanks!

The issue is the secure boot setting in the BIOS. You need to turn it off for these older cards, but to be able to do that you need to be able to enter and see the BIOS.

Doing a CMOS reset will not turn that off, since the default is secure boot on.

Highly annoying...
