Can't evaluate life span and health status of the SSD THNSNS5256GPUK NVMe Toshiba 256GB in my new XPS 8920 system

Hi all,

I'm not shure to write in English or in German but to reach most of you I'll try it in English but you can also answer in German as well.

So, last week I bought an got my brand new Desktop system, DELL XPS 8920 desktop in the biggest variant with Windows 10 Pro, Intel i7-7700k Processor, 32 Gbyte RAM, NVidia GForce GTX 1080.

This new computer is equipped with a M.2 SSD of the Type THNSNS5256GPUK NVMe Toshiba 256GB

Now I tried to check the SSD health using a tool like SSDLife or “Toshiba SSD Utilities” or OCZ Tool but unfortunately no tool is identifying/detecting the SSD properly.

Neither HDDHealth nor CrystalDiskInfo or SSD-Z is working and able to identify the SSD.

The computer is working well and also the SSD is working. The BIOS/UEFI is detecting the SSD correctly and also the System Tool Intel Storage Matrix is delivering the correct SSD type, the Firmware Version 5KDA4103 and the SSD Type.

From function point of view it seems to work but it is completely unexplainable for me why each diagnostic tool fails.

So, currently I’m lost and I don't understand the background.

I want to have a tool to read out the SMART parameters and the status of my SSD. This is interesting for me especially the next months and years to follow the health status of the SSD. With my Samsung SSD’s I have i my DELL Notebook and in my older DELL XPS420 system I'm able to use Magician to do all these things, to test performance and if necessary to update also the firmware of the SSD.

Has anybody and idea what happens in my system and how I can solve the problem. Or better, has anybody had similar problems and solved in the meantime?

What can I do ... try ....

I would be very please if you can help me!

Many thanks beforhand and kind regards,

Markus (aka DrMaFu)

Hi,

any News on my issue? Nobody there who can help? Problem unknown or unsolved?

What is your experiance regarding this SSD?

So, what I figgured out is that the SSD is maybe very seldom .... isn't it? On Toshibas pages and database I can't find any Details to this m.2 SSD but what I also identified is, that DELL uses this SSD also in Alienware and Computers with higher / extreme Performance ....

In the meantime I found that the tool HW-Info is supporting the SSD. Capabilities, Features, SMART and current values like temperature .... can be read out. But I also tried AIDA64 Trial and this tool isn't supporting the SSD.

Additionally I checked the NVMe Driver. Currently the Microsoft Driver is installed für NVMe Support and no OCZ or Toshiba Driver. but with detailed Information of the SSD or a datasheet it is hard for me to identify the correct Driver....

So if you have an idea or comment please let me know....

Kind regards,
Markus

Hi Markus,

Tom
