First, try to find out if the calculator itself is gone or just the shortcut to it. Try going to Start / Run and type in "calc." It should come up. If it's there, you can create a new shortcut in the start menu. The program, CALC.EXE , lives in C:\Windows\System32.

If it's really gone, or you want to automate the procedure, you can go to the control panel, "Add or Remove Programs" applet, Choose "Add/Remove Windows Components," and then double-click on "Accessories and Utilities," and then double-click on "Accessories." A list of accessories will appear, with a check box for each. If Calculator is unchecked, check it, hit the OK button, and reinstall it. If it is checked already, uncheck it, hit the OK button to UNinstall it first, then go back to the control panel again, go through the same steps, and reinstall it. This should put it back in the menu where it belongs.

Yes!

Mine disappeared, too, during a reinstallation of XP. Even a "repair" didn't fix it. (Neither did "System Restore," which always insists nothing has been changed on my system.)

But it's back now. Thanks, M. Currie.
