Operating System CD

Hi, I just bought a brand new Dell Dimension 5100 computer this week. Anyways upon opening the box and setting it up I noticed the computer didn't come with an OS CD but instead came with a paper that said to go to support.dell.com/pcrt . Well I went to said website and it said to recreate a backup recovery CD to use the one on my computer under Dell Accessories. Well there is nothing under there to create a backup OS CD. I've tried to email Dell and it says my service tag is not valid. I also tried going into chat and it said the same thing.

Is there a way I can get a CD for backup of the OS incase I need it? As I've had to reformat my old dell a couple times.  And any clue on why my service tag is not valid?

Thanks.

TobyH,

You can request a copy of the Windows XP CD (and any other applicable CDs) as indicated here.

For some reason, it takes a few weeks for a new system's service tag to appear in Dell's database. That may be the problem with your tag number or if you are not in the US this may apply. In the short term your best bet is phoning Customer Service.
