OUTLOOK EXPRESS - sending problems reject recipients

What does it mean when I send an email to a known good email address, but OUTLOOK EXPRESS won't send it and rejects it with the following message??

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'xxxxxx@xxxxxxx.com.au'. Subject 'ebay item', Account: 'xxxxxx/COMCAST', Server: 'SMTP.COMCAST.NET', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '452 4.1.1 ... temporary failure', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 452, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

Thanks for the suggestions... I tried them and still can't get the message to go out!  BUT..

I sent the same message using the MSN Hotmail account and it went out and I have already  received a reply with no problems.. That even confusses me more! It appears as though something is up with  either Comcast or OE.. as Hotmail works OK.. This problem is not unique to 1 computer.. All 3 of them in my household experience the same thing... Strange isn't it?

It sounds like you have a setting that is wrong in your OE account. Probably the simplest way to solve is to give Comcast Support a call. They will talk you through the settings to confirm that you have everything correctly entered.

http://www.hostmysite.com/support/email/not-sending/

Check this site for a possible fix. If this does not solve the problem then set the setting back to the original setting.

The cause of this error is due to the fact that the SMTP server requires authentication.

Check your Outlook settings, making sure that your SMTP username, password, and server are correct.
Then follow this procedure to make sure you set up Outlook to use SMTP authentication :

  • 1. Click "Accounts" in the "Tools" menu
    2. Click on your email account then click "Properties"
    3. Click "Servers"
    4. Make sure the "My server requires authentication" box is checked

Also, you may get this error because the server does not recognise the senders email address as being valid.
To check your email address follow this procedure :

  • 1. Click "Accounts" in the "Tools" menu
    2. Click on your email account then click "Properties"
    3. Click "General"
    4. Make sure the address in the "E-mail address" field is created in your account's control panel
    5. Delete messages in the "Outbox" folder and try again

That also may be because of filters placed on the server. There are phishing scams that have 'ebay item' in the subject line. Try changing your subject line's wording.

Comcast requires you use port 587 . . not 25

See this for more on comcast settings

http://help.comcast.net/content/faq/Content-no-longer-available

Edit:   The link is goofy . . you will have to click on the How do I configure or set up Outlook Express for email?  on the right side of the page

http://forums.comcast.net/comcastsupport/board?board.id=2  This is the correct link to the Email Help forums. Just scroll down to find a suitable support inquirery.

Use port 995 for incoming

use port 464 for outgoing

Comcast support couldn't walk anyone through the front door. We have to rely on a forum of mostly volunteers for help. But the Help forum has some good answers.

Your configuration seems to be wrong:

POP3 server

Incoming mail is mail.comcast.net

Outgoing mail is smtp.comcast.net

Incoming port 995

Outgoing port 465

Google error 0x800CCC79

It's a problem with the configuration of OE and Webmail. There are a whole host of peop;e having the same kind of problem. One thing I forgot was that your firewall should be diabled for email scanning.
