How do I get rid of unwanted CD driver?

The trouble started a few days ago when I was looking through old CDs I recorded with Windows ME using Easy CD Creator. I got a message saying I needed to have a UFD Reader installed to read them and would I like to install now? I unthinkingly clicked "Yes". Since then I get a message when loading Windows XP "Direct CD will cause Windows to become unstable.  Windows has prevented these drivers from loading.  Click here for more details." I do, and get a message that Roxio, Inc. has a patch for Easy CD Creator for XP.  I don't want it, I just want to get rid of the destablizing drivers and go back to using the Windows XP drivers for the CD-RW drive built into my Dell.

How do I do that?  I don't know how to find where these new drivers are on my hard drive to manually delete them.  Can I just use System Restore?  And does this mean I can never read these UDF Reader-dependent CD's again unless I get the XP compatible patch for the Easy CD Creator?

Any help deeply appreciated.

Sincerely,
MouseB

Hi,

Here is how to get rid of the driver and get the old one back

Click Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > System.

On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.

Right-click the device for which you want to reinstall the previous version of the driver.

Click Properties.

Click the Drivers tab.

Click Roll Back Driver.

I`m not sure what to do about reading the CDs.  I suspect you will need the original software to do it.

If you want to read the disk, you can use the UDF Reader from Roxio.  To get rid of your existing UDF reader that you accidentially installed, just go to the Add/Remove programs in your Control Panel.  Then just uninstall it.

Thanks.

I did exactly that and things are back to normal.

First, did you uninstall the original UDF reader program?  You had to do that first.

Then install the program updateudfreader_7.exe.  This update enables some MultiRead CD-ROM drives to read UDF formatted CD-RW discs (such as those written with DirectCD or Drag-to-Disc) under Windows 98 and 98 SE, Windows ME, and Windows 2000/XP.

Hi,

Your advice seemed promising, but unless I've done something incorrectly, I'm still stuck with unreadable disks.  Here's what happened:

When I clicked your link and downloaded the file, double-clicking it led me to a Roxio download page where I chose the 5.0 update.  After installing it, I tried reading my disk again and got a an Adaptec Setup Wizard prompting me to install the UDF Reader "for Windows 95/Windows NT." My Windows XP Home Edition won't load those drivers, sending me a warning message and a link  to a "patch" ...the same Roxio page as your link.

Since I don't have the old Adaptec CD burning program, I uninstalled the UDF Reader, and am wondering if I have to buy a Roxio program to read those disks--full of pictures---created with the old Adaptec program.

Thanks again, though, for your suggestion.
