Cannot uninstall McAfee Security Suite

Hi-

[Windows XP Pro SP2]

The Dell support page(s) are simply not correct or complete or up-to-date (or all three).

See:
How Do I Uninstall Dell SecurityCenter by McAfee®?
http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kb/en/document?dn=1072821&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19

The best I could do was approximate the instructions. First I disabled the Security Center.
1. Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove> McAfee VirusScan -> Uninstall
2. Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove> McAfee Personal Firewall -> Uninstall
3. Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove> McAfee Security Suite -> Uninstall

Now why is McAfee still trying to help me? I have Zone Alarm Pro stopping it from reaching "home" so that at least it is merely an annoyance right now.

What else do I have to remove? E-mail support bailed. I am on hold for tech support now.

Thanks.

While you might have removed McAfee from the Add/Remove programs list it is not removed yet. In order too completely remove it from your machine you have to search your harddrive for any file/ folder with either "McAfee" or "Network Associates" ( the parent company of McAfee ). Once that is done you will need to go into the registry ( Start > run > type: regedit ). IMPORTANT! before you start playing with the registry make sure that you export a copy of the registry somewhere in case something goes wrong. Once you have the registry open and a copy saved you need to do a search for every instance that in any way contains the words "McAfee" or "Network Associates". Once that is done do a restart and hopefully McAfee should be completly off your system.

My girlfriend had the same problem on her pc when I wanted McAfee off to install ZA 5.5 for her.
The Message would come up saying something like,"you can not uninstall McAfee Security Center
until you uninstall the other McAfee programs first?" It's the automatic update thats preventing
you from uninstalling it.I got a program called Advanced Uninstaller Pro and did it using it.
Then I went into the regedit and clean the rest of the garbage out.Make sure you know what
you're doing before messing around in rededit.Always back up your files first.Hope this helped.
