Dell OptiPlex GX620 and Windows 10, thoughts?
This post is to share experiences of using Windows 10 on a Dell Optiplex GX620 desktop.
My desktop originally came loaded with Windows XP running on its standard hardware.
Over a period of time I had upgraded its processor to Intel Pentium D 3.40 Ghz (a 64 bit processor) and its RAM to 4GB. I also had purchased a copy of Windows 7 and installed it on my desktop. Windows 7 was working superbly on this upgraded configuration for meeting my day to day computing needs.
With the arrival of Windows 10, as I had kept my Windows 7 updated, I received an option to update to Windows 10. The update tool reported that my desktop hardware was compliant with Windows 10. Though I was feeling a bit skeptical about whether my desktop will be able to run with it, I decided to bite the bullet and am already feeling glad to have done it. :)
Windows 10 is now running pretty efficiently on my Dell Optiplex GX620 (upgraded hardware). But it is too soon to be very happy I guess. There are no problems with any drivers as yet and I am keeping my hopes high :)
Others may feel free to share their experience about this particular model running on Windows 10.

I have GX620 running 64 bit Win 7 with original D640 processor which is not compatible with 64 bit Win 10.
What processor did you upgrade to ? D945, D960, etc.
Are you running 32 or 64 bit Win10 ?
Thanks.

No such model D640
Pentium D 915 to 960 is possible on the Mini Tower. 960 is max upgrade for this system.
There are no WIN10 drivers for this or WIN8 or Win7 Drivers.
You use 32 bit or 64 bit VISTA drivers.
Works fine with 64 Bit windows 10.
HOWEVER maximum ram is 3.50 gigs regardless of how much ram you have.
64 bit OS doesnt get you more ram EVER.

Thanks for your reply. Sorry, current processor is Pentium 4 640, not D 640. I have acquired a D 945 but have not tried it since I learned that the PrefetchW instruction is required for 64 bit Win10, and information obtained from cpu-world.com indicated that the D 945 does not support the instruction. Since you have had success with it, maybe the cpu-world.com info is incorrect. I will go ahead and try the D 945.

Sorry for this late response.
My current processor is Pentium D 3.4 GHz, its a x64-based processor hence supports 64 bit OS. I am not an expert so cannot say if this information is a sufficient response to your query.
