The software will probably depend on your system's specifications.  Maybe try posting them...

Another good antivirus program is Kaspersky.

Compter_kid, There are many excellent antivirus programs. Some are free and others you will need to pay for the program and yearly subscriptions. If you are new to using an antivirus program, you may want to use the one that came with your computer and pay for the subscription. Magazines like PC World rate these programs yearly so you could do a google search an do a bit of research first. I have used AVG, AVAST, (both free) and they have done a good job. I have also used Norton, and MCAfee, and am currently testing Panda2007. These have also done a good job. Some of these programs are not as user friendly as they could be.

I'll have to disagree on the best free AV.  I've been using Avast! AV for about a year. It several reviews it was rated better than some commercial products and did a better job in avoiding false positives than AVG.  Links to some of the reviews can be found in a previous reply by me in this thread.

"...All products listed in our comparatives are already a selection of some very good anti-virus products. In order to get tested by us, companies must fulfill various conditions and minimum requirements. ..."

A lot of large corporations use Trend Micro.  There are several vendors that utilize the Trend Micro Antivirus \ Antispyware engines in their software.  My favorite is Systemsuite by V-Com.  The V-Com Systemsuite has kept my machine cleaned up and tuned up for the past 4 years!  Systemsuite also has some real powerful utilites included.  Here is a link to their website.

Remember, no matter which AV software that you choose; YOU MUST KEEP IT UPDATED !!!

Enjoy!
