Task Manager has been disabled by your Administrator

A few weeks ago I had a trojan that I thought I had gotten rid of. I can't remember specifics though.

We need to temporarily disable Spysweeper so it doesn't interefere with our fix.

Disable SpySweeper
If you have Spy Sweeper version 4
- Open it, Click Options over on the left, then Program options
- Uncheck load at windows startup.
- Over to the left, Click shields and Uncheck all there.
- Uncheck home page shield.
- Uncheck automatically restore default without notification.
- Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect before running HJT.

If you have SpySweeper version 5:
To disable SpySweeper Shields
* Open SpySweeper.
* Click Shield Settings on the right
(or Shields on the left, depending what screen you're on).
* Click Internet Explorer and uncheck all items.
* Click Windows System and uncheck all items.
* Click Hosts File and uncheck all items.
* Click Startup Programs and uncheck all items.
* Close SpySweeper.
Reboot you computer, and ensure Spy Sweeper is disabled.

1. Go HERE and download FakeAlertFix

Save it to your Desktop. But do not run it yet.

2. Reboot into Safe Mode
This can be done by
  • Restart your PC, and after it starts, but before you see the Windows Splash screen
    Begin tapping the F8 key twice a second untill you reach another menu screen (black background with white menu choices)
    Use your arrow keys and select Safe Mode and then Enter



3. Close all Internet Explorer Windows and Run FakeAlertFix
  • Double click the fakealertfix.Zip file to unzip it.
    Open the FakeAlertFix Folder
    Double Click FakeAlertFix.vbe to run the program
    Then Select O.K. at the prompt
    Allow the program to run (Your desktop will disappear, then re-appear. This is normal)
    When it is finished it wil produce a log C:\FakeAlertFix.txt
    Copy and paste the results of that log in your reply







4. Then reboot your PC into Normal Windows Mode->> Rerun Hijackthis and post a fresh Hiajckthis log.
As well as the C:\FakeAlertfix.txt log

Note: you may have to post the results in more than one reply

Disable and Enable System Restore
  • Lets create a clean System Restore point
    the instructions are here

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of
    Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.u5.
    Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
    Click the " Download" button to the right.
    Check the box that says: " Accept License Agreement".
    The page will refresh.
    Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
    Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
    Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
    Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
    Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
    Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
    Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u5-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Download and install SiteHound by Firetrust for protection against malicious websites.

Pick the version that matches your browser

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently for critical updates

Backup your Important Documents and Files on a regular basis
  • To a disc or a USB key, not your Hardrive

Hey bamajim

 

I've been trying to follow everything you said but they just don't want to install themselves.

  • Online Armor reports MoveFile failed; code 5
    • Comodo had a similar problem (Error 5: Access is denied).
  • I have uninstalled all of the Java components, rebooted, and tried to install jre-6u5-windows-i586-p but Error 1722 appears.
  • Sitehound for Firefox also can't install
  • Furthermore, there's a folder on my desktop entitled "backups" with the PowerReg Scheduler backups, that hazardous program we tried to take care of. (I also ran RegistryBooster2 scan in hopes of getting rid of the remnants after you had me uncheck PowerReg somewhere)
  • Also, my Ruckus Player can't connect to the server because of my firewall, it gives a number (12029). The only firewall I know of is the Windows Security one which has given Ruckus an exception.

Online Armour may conflict with SiteHound so it may be best not to install it.

haha ok. Unfortunately I'm not able to install any of those things, including Online Armour, SiteHound and Java. Do you know what the problem(s) could be?

To restore your "Power Reg Scheduler"

Run Hijackthis. Select Main Window
Then Select " View list of Backups"
Check O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe
Select The Restore button Then O.K.

Reboot your PC

That will restore the PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe file to run at startup.

Great! That's allowed me to reinstall Java and Online Armor too! Thank you, why did I delete it in the first place?

That program has been known to be a pathway for advertising programs to download themselves. But I'm glad you got it all worked out.
