Problems with McAfee VirusScan
I have already contacted McAfee three times regarding this problem, they recently told me to contact Dell.
Summary of problem: Updates were not loading properly. I followed some directions from McAfee, then Virus Scan could not be reinstalled. I had to uninstall it and try again, twice. Still not working. Latest thing they told me to do was to go into the registry and delete the McAfee folder. I was not able to do this, and they told me to contact Dell.
This makes me very nervous not having my VirusScan running. Can anyone help me?
Thank you,
Laura

Actually...corruption in software programs is not uncommon.. I deal with it on a weekly, if not daily basis for Office and Symantec. The scouring of the Registry to remove a program totally is not an insurmountable task, but is frightening for novices. McAfee drops a ton of stuff in the Registry and it's a fairly delicate job to get it all (Norton is no picnic either when severe corruption prevents Updates from working).
I'd have to agree that another AV product would be warranted unless you can get help from an onsite expert to solve your Mcafee issues. We dumped Mcafee three years ago (a $60,000 license) as I felt it wasn't doing the job we needed on our wide area network. Symantec works great now. But there are lots of AV products...I like four or five above McAfee.

there are problems with mcafee's virusscan, with the updates.. imo, you should uninstall mcafee and use something else instead.. you can get a free license for etrust's ez armor.. (or you could use avg, or norton)

here is the tech support forum for mcafee; you can read through the threads.. i bought virusscan, and the updates never worked for me, and many others also had problems with the updates not working.. the updates may work for some people..

i use etrust ez antivirus and the kerio 2.15 firewall. (the etrust ez firewall, a version of zone alarm, included in the ez armor package, works fine)

Very interesting information you both have given me. Now this morning, my anti spyware by McAfee needed an update and it did the same thing as my Virus Scan! I am loosing all of my protection! This is very upsetting. All that money that I paid, down the drain.
I will now be researching and trying to find a new protection company, maybe Norton.
