CNET Downloads implementing new 'ban' on adware: removing nearly 600 programs

CNET Networks Inc. announced it was removing nearly 600 programs from its popular Download.com service under a new ban on "adware," or software for distributing advertising. CNET already had a ban on spyware.

"Our decision to expand our ban from just spyware to all forms of bundled adware is based on user feedback," said Scott Arpajian, senior vice president of Download.com.

That is too good to be true.

I remember 3 years ago downloading a game, and it had zapspot spyware.

If they are doing this, good job, and it's about time!!!

If they could outlaw spyware altogether, that would be excellent.

Really great news!.  Its the worst thing possible for everyone when a "trusted" site hosts malware cr*p. Good for cnet @ Download.

I have noticed an advertisment of a 'anti-spyware' program on the download page for Spywareblaster at Majorgeeks----pops up first --and causes some folks to download the wrong program, causing problems. All these sites---the good ones--need to clean up their acts, and operate for the consumer---average user.

Majorgeeks is a great site----just a little misleading for beginners in this one  area.
