follow up on plextor 716a with question

Hello,
With help from the forum I was able to change the Cd-rom.
I haven't tried to burn anything yet and I haven't installed their
software that came with it. I am not sure how important they
are right now. It does have Roxio Creator 7 which I think is a
step up from my version 5.
I had two problems.  The first was getting the power cable
out of the socket. (like pulling a tooth)
But here is my question if someone can give me a clue.
The ribbon cable. The one that came with the Plextor had the
slave connector (gray) halfway on the cable and I needed it
near the other one. I tried and I tried to get that thing to move
up. (there must be a trick)  So, I ended up putting my original
cable back on it. (I believe it is a 80 also from what I can tell)
Is there a trick to it?   I will probably use this cable when I
swap out my wife's CD rom.

Thanks again for all the help.  It really was fairly easy.

Wayneout,

What are you trying to connect to the slave connector?
If this is an issue because of another drive, you could always switch the drives around, so it would be located closer to the slave connector. This is what I have always done.

I have to put a CD rom's in my wife's computer and they are right
together. The slave would be for the CD RW. I want to replace
the one that I just took out of my old computer with the one
that is in hers. It is a real old one.
It just seems that you could move that slave connection down.

that is how it is now with the blue at the far left.

that is how I am trying to position it but the
gray doesn't seem to want to move from that
middle position. And the two cd rom's are right together.
I am not sure if the wire cable in my wife's computer is a 40 or an 80

Sorry for the crude attempt at drawing.

you maye be limited by this cable, so I personally would go to my local computer store, and ask about an 80 wire cable, so then you are sure its an 80 wire, and then make sure the slave connector is in the appropriate position, it won't cost much for the cable.  Are you attempting this with the cable provided with the plextor drive?  That is an 80 wire.

I am using the wire that came with the 4550. I read up
on it on the Internet and it says that 80 cable has the
blue, gray, and black connectors and that the 40 cable
did not.  I will see if Radio Shack or someplace like
that has 80 cable and try it with them. I emailed
plextor about the cable but they didn't answer about
it.
Thanks,
Bill
