Sata drivers?

Hi, I have a Dell 9100 and I am trying to install xp pro (my own license) from booting up from the cd, but it it cannot load because the xp pro cd does not recognize the SATA hard drive i have.  What do I need to do to install this?  Thanks.

Your XP install CD must also have SP2 already on it - or the install will blue screen when you load the SATA driver.

It's possible, but you will need to prepare a slipstream XP CD using another system.

I bought a Dimension 9100 with 160G SATA hard disk and no floppy driver. How can I reinstall XP from scratch? Is it possible for me to reinstall XP without floppy? I don't want to buy a floppy driver only for system installation.

Thanks a lot.

netghoster.

Why not just temporarily install a floppy drive, the D-9100 motherboard has a connector for one

I know I can install a floppy driver on the Dimension 9100. But I have no floppy driver at hand. I don't want to buy one only for the system installaion.

Thanks.

Thank you so much for the link. It is very helpful. I am still confused. Should I integrate the SATA drivers into the XP installation CD or the XP with SP2 integrated can support SATA Hard Driver directly?

Hi!

I have the same problem with my new 9150. I tried to use the SATA Intel Matrix Storage Manager v 5.1.0.1022 A03 found in the file library. BUT it will not work.

In BIOS the SATA is set to Automatic RAID else AHCI. But when booting the XP CD after I selected the drivers (F6) Windows XP blue screens.

The only way to install XP is by using Combined mode in BIOS. But then neither RAID or AHCI is being used only the Windows standard SATA driver.

I have an Dimension 8400 with the FR version of Intels controller (in 9150 it is GR), and there it works just fine with iastor.sys for the FR version.

The bundled XP home thar came with the computer does work in the right mode, however when I use my XP SP2 it's impossible to install it in the same way. Is there something Dell has forgotten to set up on the support page for drivers to the 9150???

Or maybe I was to early to buy a 9150?

And then of course Windows XP can only install extra SCSI drivers from a floppy !?!?

Have I missed something?

I just got a brand new 9150 (today, actually) and need to wipe it clean and reinstall XP Pro (it came with XP Home).

I can take a floppy drive from another Dell (OptiPlex GX150 or GX280) but not sure how this gets around the problem...  I'm also not sure I understand these SATA devices and related BIOS settings.  Are there step-by-step instructions for getting this accomplished?  In the end, I want the hardware configured as it is from Dell (using the DataSafe feature) but runnning my copy of XP Pro.

Thanks

After reading a bit more on http://www.djdenham.com/8400%20Special.htm (great link, by the way!), I think I get where the floppy comes in - to install the SATA drivers during the DOS mode of Windows setup.  Ok, now if only I can get it to boot off the CD-ROM... it keeps telling me the "selected boot device not available" even though it's first in the BIOS boot sequence.  Hmmm...

Yes, we are bleeding on the edge. I think Dell missed something or is not giving us the complete package on the SATA drivers. I have tried all combinations of SATA configuration while pressing F6 during setup. It fails every time. Sometimes it gets a little bit further depeding on if I chose RAID or AHCI.
