SM Bus Controller driver
Hey all! I have a XPS420 and I've got the yellow exclamation point next to "SM Bus Controller" in my device manager. I downloaded the chipset driver and installed it but the exclamation is still there. Do I need a different driver? ANY help would be much appreciated!

* Go to the XPS 420 drivers page
* Look for Chipset
* Reinstall the Intel Chipset driver. When done, restart the XPS 420

Double click on the SM Bus Controller with ? or ! (Assume it shows under Other devices?) go to details tab -> Change the drop down to Hardware ID - Post the info given below in the box. We can find the driver based on the info.

Hi Brettintherye,
The yellow exclamation point is an error, not a missing driver. Open the device to see what the error is.

it says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver."
I have the original cds that came with it. Should I try those or is there a more up to date file online? THANKS!

Try this link
downloadcenter.intel.com/confirm.aspx
Uninstall the SmBus controller that shows ! mark - Choose scan for hardware changes and see. Try rebooting the computer after the installation.

Dear veejdeej
I have exactly the same problem with my new Vostro 3460 -
Looking into the error Hardware ID / Details I have the following:
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E22&SUBSYS_05631028&REV_04
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E22&SUBSYS_05631028
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E22&CC_0C0500
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1E22&CC_0C05
Maybe there is also a magic fix for me ?

Hi Yuva,
Try installing the below mentioned drivers
MEI Dell Intel Driver:
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/DriverFileFormats/Product/vostro-3460?DriverId=JH8MG&FileId=2987855823&urlProductCode=False
Intel HM77 Chipset Driver:
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/DriverFileFormats/Product/vostro-3460?DriverId=C0G85&FileId=2993242903&urlProductCode=False
Intel USB 3.0 Driver:
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/DriverFileFormats/Product/vostro-3460?DriverId=76R5D&FileId=2993238633&urlProductCode=False
Mark as resolved if these drivers work for you! Restart the computer after you install each driver and check device manager.

Dear veejdeej
You did it again ! :) !
I do not know how you do this but, yes, DriverId=C0G85 is not includedd in the list of drivers I've got for my Service Tag.
Now after I've installed it, "SM Bus Controller" is ok, but there is still one more problem with the "USB2.0-CRW"-
Looking into the error Hardware ID / Details I have the following:
USB\VID_0BDA&PID_0129&REV_3960
USB\VID_0BDA&PID_0129
Can you pleas try to see if you can find the missing driver for this one as well ?
(although you are not a Dell Employee, I think they should pay you for this great help )
Thanks
Yuval
