It sounds likely that's the hard drive, yes.

This sounds like it may be the cooling fan. Do you feel air coming out from underneath it. Does the laptop operate properly during this noise?

Thank you for your message.
Is there a clicking noise or do you hear a buzzing noise?
Run a custom test on the hard drive by following these steps.
1) Press at the welcome screen for the boot menu
2) At the One Time Boot menu, press the arrow key to highlight Diagnostics, then press to begin ePSA.
3) Choose no for memory test and then choose system test
4) Now click on custom test and highlight hard drive and click run test
Update the bios from this link http://dell.to/2hi5esT

Hard drive platters spin at 5400-7200 rpm -- there will be some noise. If you want silence, replace the hard drive with a solid state drive, which has no moving parts.

Hi,
I bought a new dell Vostro 14, but it makes spinning noise from the fan. I am not happy with it.
Is there a way to address the problem, or should I return it back?
