Is R313263.exe (which applies to WD10EALX) required for WD10EZEX?
The Dell Smart Status Test records the test as "Indeterminate" due to the Western Digital WDC WD10EZEX hard disk. It advises "Upgrade the driver for the Hard Drive Controller or disk subsystem".
R31363 (which applies to WD10EALX) is the only driver I can find on the Dell site.
I only bought the Hard disk last week, and it was manufactured in 2015, so I would expect any firmware upgrades required for Windows 7 would have been incorporated in the firmware of the hard disk.
Is R31363 the correct driver to use? Is there a better driver? Is there a risk that R31363 could cause problems?
(I can't run Windows updates due to "Windows update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer", and the windows update troubleshooter fails with "WindowsUpdateDiagnostic error code 0x8E5E0247". Could these be linked to the hard disk problem?)

Use the WD Data Lifeguard software to test retail WD drives - don't rely on the Dell diagnostics.
