Ok, sorry, please clarify what the problem is. Are you trying to install a drive or read a disc?

I have the exact problems. i still didnt figure out the solution even with dell assistance. All they told me is to uninstall it and install it back. but that didn't help. hopefully someone knows how to make it work.

By the way. i have D drive and E drive. D drive i working fine. but E drive it does not recognize any cd. when i check the device manager it say it's working properly. my DVD/RW drive name is Philips DVD+-RW DVD8701

First...go to 'Control Panel' then 'System'. Check the 'Device Manager' and see if all your drives are in the list, specifically the 5 1/4 drives. If in the list, delete and reboot, your OS should recognize the hardware on start-up and install the drivers.
