Dimension 2400 - New Hard Disk drive
This is probably a pretty simple one to answer, but I didn't know where to look in any FAQ's, so here I am.
I've been using a Dell Dimension 2400 for about six years, now (refurbished) and it's been, literally, the best computer I've ever owned, hands down. When my wife wanted a new computer, I got her her choice from Best Buy (an Asus replete with bells and whistles) and kept this one for my own use.
The hard drive is aging, though, and I want to install a new one before the old one goes kaputzo. Currently I have a WD 80 gig installed. The Dimension 2400 has BIOS Update A05 installed.
Can anyone here tell me, what is the largest boot-disk hard drive this BIOS update will recognize? 80 gig drives are difficult, at best, to find these days, and I'm considering going to a larger EIDE drive, perhaps 160 or 320 gigs...but if the BIOS won't recognize them, I'll need to partition them, first, to be able to utilize all available space.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

A 320gb IDE/EIDE [aka PATA], 3.5", 7200rpm internal hard drive should work fine in the Dimension 2400.
There should be no need to update the BIOS, but you will need to be running XP SP1, or higher and remember to set the hard drive's jumpers to 'Cable Select'.
The procedures for replacing the hard drive, are here:
