DVD error - Physical Memory Dumping HELP!

Hi everyone.

I am having a very frustrating problem with my DVD player.  CD's work, I can burn CD's. However, today I went to play a DVD and I got a blue screen error message.  It said something about nv4_disp.dll and dumping of physical memory.

I have upgraded my graphics card in the past.  I tried updating the drivers for that today and still got the blue screen error message.  I am at a lost for what could be wrong.  I'm hoping you all can give some sound advice as to how to troubleshoot this problem.

I feel I should also mention that I have an external DVD drive I also tried.  When I try to play the DVD I get the same error.  I notice the error messages list the name of my video driver (nv4_disp.dll) What could this have to do with the problem?

Hi, Desabul:

Please provide the model of your Dell and the model of your video card, which is listed in device manager, as well as your operating system.

We really need a few details in order to suggest any help.

Yes, obviously this error has nothing to do with your disc drives. I think this is most likely to be a driver problem, so go here to grab the latest NVidia driver for your video card. Then UNINSTALL your DVD program, update the video drivers, and reinstall your video program.

Let me know if that works.

If you Google "nv4_disp.dll", you'll see this is quite common.

Here's an update:

I went through these steps, still get the blue screen of death "nv4_disp.dll"

in order:

uninstalled dell cineplayer (DVD program)

uninstalled drivers

used Drive Sweeper to uninstall drivers

rebooted in safe mode and used Drive Sweeper to uninstall drivers

reinstalled new drivers (got from Nvidia's website)

reinstalled CinePlayer

played DVD and got blue screen of death

I'm about to just give up, this is terribly frustrating!

Ok, I did already update the drivers.

I use Cineplayer, well I'm trying :emotion-1:

So, I should uninstall this then reinstall it?

Take a look at this MS KB article. It says to make suer you have the latest service pack, and then provides a hotfix that's supposed to solve this particular problem.

Another idea, just for fun, try VLC Media Player (link below). It would be interesting to see if the problem is specific to Cineplayer.

Ok, so I tried your DVD player and it worked!  Why would one DVD player work and the two I have not? (cineplayer and windows media player)

I really don't think I fixed anything, I installed the newest service pack and did everything you said, except install the hotfix....can you think of any reasons this new DVD player would work?

Glad that worked!

Windows Media Player and Cineplayer are both regarded as bloated, complicated programs. You're better off using something else.
