Card Reader
Since my dell computer went out of warranty 4 months ago, i cannot get any help. my card reader stopped working and i wanted to replace the driver, but i can't figure out from the website which driver it is; when i entered my service tag, i wasn't even sure which category it is; sounds like chipset on my google search; does anyone know for sure? I may be in the work category on this forum; if so i'm sorry!

Post your model computer and your operating system when asking for help. Also mention if the reader is built into the computer or external. Try opening Device Manager, find your card reader under Disk Drives, right click on it and select Update Driver Software. If the reader has failed, updating the driver will not help. Card reader drivers are not available in Dell Drivers and Downloads.

My model is inspiron 580, windows 7 operating system; card reader is built in
I don't know what to look for in the device manager; nothing says "card reader". I have tried searching the dell website and can't find it there either. I saw something about a chipset, but i'm not sure that is it either. my list in device manager is: Computer/disk drives/display adapters/dvd/cd-rom drives/human interface devices/ide ata/atapi controllers/imaging devices/keyboards/mice and other pointing devices/monitors/network adapters/processors/sound, video & game controllers/system devices/& universal serial bus controllers. under USB controllers is 4 generic usb hub, 1 intel(R) 5 series/3400 series chipset family usb enhanced host contorller - 3B3C & 1 intel(R) 5 series/3400 series chipset family usb enhanced host contorller - 3B34, usb mass storage deivce, usb printing support, & 2 usb root hubs.
