CD drive no longer recognized by system or displayed

I have a Dimension E510 I began getting the following message at boot time and the CD drive does not show up in the device manager or in my computer. The CD drive also will not open.  What can I do to get the PC to recognize the CD drive? I recently restored the PC to factory settings but the problem was already there before I restored.

Drive 2 not found:

Parallel ATA, Data-0

(PRI IDE MASTER)

Strike F1 to continue

Hi abur,

That message indicates the BIOS does not detect your drive. There are two possibly causes. One is that the drive is bad, and second, one of the cables has become disconnected. If you're comfortable working inside your computer, open it up and try reconnecting the data and power cables. Here are some instructions.

If the same message occurs, then you'll be needing a new DVD drive. Your system requires an IDE type drive, such as the ones shown here.
