how to print envelopes from Mac OSX with 3100cn?
Does anyone know how I can get my brand new (useless) 3100cn to print envelopes from either Appleworks or Word for Mac? I'm using OSX 10.3.9. I put envelopes in the multi purpose feeder tray, but no matter what I try, it always prints onto the paper in the main tray.
I find it astounding and outrageous that Dell (so called) Technical Support has no clue how to do this, even though Dell claims on its web site and in its advertising that this printer works with OSX and that they support it. Does anyone else share my outrage?

On the PC, to print envelopes, you need to set the MPF tray for envelope and then in the print dialog you need also to set the paper size (ie #10 envelope) and paper type (envelope.) If you don't have access to those settings in your print dialog then...I'm not sure what to tell you, they have to match.

I haven't tried to print envelopes on my 3100cn but I have a suggestion on getting the printer to print from the multi purpose feeder. I found that I have to manually select the multi purpose feeder (MPF) in the paper feed option to get it to print anything from there.
You go to the print dialog box (File>Print), then go to the third drop down menu (it says "Copies & Pages") and drop down to Paper Feed. It should say Auto Select but that doesn't do anything but print from paper tray. Click on it and select MPF and it should then print from the multi purpose feeder.
That's what I have to do to get the printer to pull from the MPF no matter what paper it is.
Hope that helps.

In MS Word for Windows, under the Tools menu there is an envelope tool and on mine it sucessfully prints to #10 envelopes in the MPF tray.
Also, after upgrading to A04 firmware, the printer seems to print envelopes with a LOT LESS wrinkling and curling. I don't if this a fluke or not yet but definitaly worth a try...
