Dell AIO 964 - Communication Error - Processor Error 0x0
The new Dell system and Dell AIO 964 has issues printing. The purpose of this 964 was to replace a bulky HP AIO. I spent 1 1/2 hrs to with phone support to get a "solution".
Here's the details:
http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/document?docid=E784E745F5195965E030030ABD620A27&c=us&l=en&s=gen
Here's the seconcd experience with this issue.
I completed the 3 command...still no success.
Next powered off the printer and tried printing...no success
Next powered off printer and removed USB cable and ran all 3 commands again...SUCCESS.
The Processor Error info will show in the System's Event Log under Printer with a Red X.
I hope this info helps others and dell's support. I hope the compatibility and qualification test lab can duplicate this issue and resolve it via software since my wife will be tossing the AOI 964 on the driveway if it continues happening.
Other printer experience:
HP 4L with over 10 yrs of service. It had 2 issues prior to retirement.
1. The gear on the canon motor split. minor repair with a plastic wire tie helped it for an additional 2 years.
2. I believe the Cannon motor finally gave up. (I did not actually verify this)
HP AIO (Print/Copy/Scan with paper feeder) for over 6 yrs
1. Paper Feeder not the best design since it would grab too many sheets periodically.
2. Having the cover drop down dislogded a plastic mechanical hinge (minor)
Details of application and what was happening during printer communication error.
9/25/06 - Microsoft Word 2003 printing a 2 page doc - froze during 19 out of 20 copies
9/27/06 - Microsoft Word 2003 printing a 1 page doc
