AIO 942 printer driver for Windows XP

I got my Dell Dimension computer w/Windows XP, along with my AIO 942 printer approx 7 yrs ago. No printing problems until a few weeks ago. After trying various things I used a "patch" found here to completely remove my printer. I was going to re-install the printer driver only the download page on Dell only gives me the option of vista 32 bit or vista 64 bit for operating systems. I also found another page in this forum that talks about using the vista driver and changing the compatibility mode for windows 7. I'm not sure if that would work for XP too and I'm also not sure exactly when to use that step. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx!

Hi barbbu55,

Insert the printer driver’s cd for a Dell 942 printer and install the drivers in the computer. If the cd is unavailable use the following steps to download the printer drivers.

Click here to download the XP drivers for this printer:

NOTE: Please do not connect the printer using the USB cable to the computer prior to installing the drivers. Please choose the right operating system from the list under operating system.

Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.

Connect the printer using the USB cable when prompted.

Try Scanning and printing the document from the computer and reply with results.

Please post the results.

Hi Nikhil D,

I found the disk for my 942 printer & it worked! It seems obvious now....I should've thought of that....                                                                                                               Any way....Thank you very much for your help and your speedy response!

Hi barbbu55

I installed the 942 all in one.  The Copy and Printer work, but the scan and fax do not.  I do not have the installation disk.  I used your directions. Prior to your directions, I could print.  Now the printer does not respond at all, no scanning, faxing--not even regular printing.  Please advise.

Hi nlbickett,

Please check if you are able to make a photocopy from the printer using the printers’ operating menu options.

If not, Unplug the power cord, adapter from the printer, press and hold the power button on the printer for 20 seconds. This will remove the static power from the printer. Now try making a photocopy from the printer.

If unable to print from the computer, please provide operating system and the antivirus program install in the computer.

Check if that works and reply with results.

Hi Nikhil,

I can print copies and I can send documents to the printer from MS Word, but I can NOT scan and save to a file so I can e-mail documents that need to be signed.  Please advise.

Thanks.

nlbickett,

Please continue with DELL-Nikhil D

Do you have the printer disk? To scan/fax, you need the OCR Program installed.

Start, all programs, ABBYY FineReader 6.0 Sprint, ABBYY FineReader 6.0 Sprint

jayjayvet,

If you CLICK HERE, on the next page, send a private message, we can discuss the OCR Program options there.

For what printer is this for?

I spent a week messing with this thing, and could not get it to print.  I followed your instructions and it was like magic!  You are my hero!  This is nit-picky, but why do I get this message?  dlbujswx.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.  Please tell Microsoft blah-blah-blah........I was getting this message before I lost my ability to print, so it's not a big deal.  When I click "print" it takes a full minute before I get that message, and then another full minute before it starts to print after I click "do not send message".  Like I said, I was getting this before, so it's not a big deal.  I'm just thrilled to be able to print again!   Thanks for everything!
