What is the lifespan of a PV LTO Tape Drive

Hello,

Is there any documentation on what is how often should I change my PV Tape Drives? to be specific we are talking for a LTO 2 and a LTO 5 drives. I'm not asking about obsolescence but on how often the tape drive could fail.

Hello Rumana199,

The average MTBF (meantime between failure) is about 250,000 hours for an LTO2 & LTO5 drives. here is a link to some specs for your drives.

Hello Rumana199,

Yes about every 4-5 years is about reasonable to change your tape drives.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks Sam L, 250,000 hours are the equivalent of 28 years!!. We change the units every 5 years, do you see this reasonable?
