R620/R630 PCIe Slot Power Limit

Hi,

I'm trying to find out if any of the slots available on the R620 (12G) and R630 (13G) are capable of suppling a FusionIO card with 75W of power. Currently the cards are in slots that are only supplying the device with 25W.

Thanks,

Drew

Hello Drew

I'm fairly certain that the PCIe slots are capable of supplying the 75w of power to the card. By default the fusion IO will only draw 25w from the PCIe slot. You need to go into the fusion IO management interface and enable the option to draw all power from the PCIe slot.

Thanks

I'm reluctant to override the settings for the device without knowing power capabilities of each slot, as well as the entire system. Also why is the BIOS not reporting the correct information/how can I inspect what these values should be? I can't find any reference to the power limits in the technical specs or the BIOS.

Here's the output of fio-status/fio-pci-check from an R630, showing that the slot is only able to provide 25W.

fio-status -a
...
PCI:03:00.0, Slot Number:3
PCIe slot available power: 25.00W
PCIe negotiated link: 8 lanes at 5.0 Gt/sec each, 4000.00 MBytes/sec total

fio-pci-check

Root Bridge PCIe 6250 MB/sec needed max

Bridge 0000:00:02.00 (03-03) (8086:2f04)
Needed 4000 MB/sec Avail 4000 MB/sec

ioDrive3 0000:03:00.0 (3002) Firmware 118126
Slot Power limit: 25.0W (25000mw)

Thanks

The manual states that the limit is 25w for both the R620 and R630

Non Dell qualified peripheral cards and/or peripheral cards greater than 25 W are not supported.

That statement is only valid for operation outside the standard temperature range (Expanded Operating Temperature).

NOTE: Outside the standard operating temperature (10 °C to 35 °C), the system can operate down to 5 °C or up to 40 °C for a maximum of 10% of its annual operating hours.
