Hi I am new member but was desperately search answer for my Dell Optiplex 3050 Micro that has 25 error code during post. According to Dell Diagnostic chart: 25 (2 amber + 5 white, repeat) is a "RCM" which indicate "BIOS Checksum Failure" and suggested solution is "System is in Recovery Mode. Flash latest BIOS version. If problem persists, replace the motherboard".
The issue is that there is no display after power on. I can see CPU/fan spinning. If there is NO ram installed, it will beeping. After install RAM it then have the error code 25. The RAM for sure is good (pulled from other working system), and I switch between 2 RAM slot both the same result.
I try to follow DELL BIOS recovery method 2/3 that press "Ctrl" + "Esc" after power on, no luck since there is no display so I don't know what happens and still goes to 25 status.
Any suggestion how to save this system other than swap the mb? (and I don't think will do that)
I am saying flash with exact same model's bios. For my case: I have a running 3050m, and a faulty 3050m. I saw online video that can use eeprom programmer to readout bios/flash back bios via USB on a working PC. However what scares me that they use other tools to modify bios information. However since my case I could have a exact same model bios. (since Dell don't provide raw bios any more)
BTW, both command parameters doesn't work on latest bios exe from dell. I tried on command line they don't recognize them. Type bios.exe /? shows nothing of export/extract.
I do not think it is a good idea to flash bios of different model. very few exceptions to this. If you have another working Dell pc of same model or someone can share dumped bios.bin of same model then you can try.
also have you tried to extract bios.bin from bios.exe? Sometimes Dell .bin or .rom BIOS file can be extracted by runningbios.exe /writeromfile. Other known parameters are writehdrfile and writehexfile.
Thanks for the reply -- I open to 2 threads because these are 2 totally different way of fixing
Use Dell way of fixing by following your suggestion, and they don't work. I remove/replace CR2032, doesn't work. I use cmos clear step (jumper way), not success. I follow Dell website step of Recovery 2/3, not success. The trouble is there is no display at all so no chance access bios screen -- I am looking for advice how to get into bios , or without see the screen, how can do a flash bios via external USB.
The other thread is about PC technician way of repair which not cover by Dell support -- I am only looking for someone who under stand BIOS and whether it is unique per system or same per line of product/model.
Great. By confirm that BIOS is unique per model I am happy as I have one same model in hand so don't require asking other help.
I follow some online suggestion to get a special programmer device, hopefully it's just the bios issue. But anyway a good way to learn/work on. Thanks again for your help.
Dell BIOS is unique per model (not per PC) with exception of Service Tag.
There are articles and videos on flashing BIOS via flash drive if you wanted to download on another PC entering your model and so on. But I believe your PC needs to be working in some way to do it. MB may be bricked since BIOS recovery doesn't work, but can't for sure diagnose from here.
Thank chino for sending the link for 3050 bios.bin. It says VJ40T which appears to be for 3050 MT motherboard. Since Dell only released one umbrellla bios for 3050, it can be presumed that all models of 3050 use same bios, including MT,SFF,Micro.
I can think of none. Do you mean after using one pc’s bios.bin to flash the other, the other pc bios becomes clone of the first? If that happens and they show identical service tag in bios, no drawback at all.

I saw your other thread. No need to duplicate. https://www.dell.com/community/Optiplex-Desktops/Dell-micro-system-Flash-bios-from-copy-of-another-same-model/m-p/8268118#M63132
Might be time to start here. Then see how system acts and if you still need to attempt BIOS recovery again:
How to Perform a BIOS or CMOS Reset and Clear the NVRAM on Dell Computers
Besides replacing the size 2032 CMOS battery, be sure to also use the RTCRST/PSWD jumper reset as described in the article.

Seeing in your other duplicate thread you tried that already, I replied there also. https://www.dell.com/community/Optiplex-Desktops/DELL-3050-Micro-Failure-on-code-25-BIOS-CRC-mismatch/m-p/8267962#M63114

yes that would work. BIOS is not specific to an individual unit of same model.
yes the bios extraction tool does not always work. I am not a programmer so not sure how to explain that.

Hello OP, here is a .bin file for you to test with. Maybe you can get the latest BIOS, extracted using Dell HDR Module Extractor , view and edit with UEFITool.

Hello, a slightly related question.
Is there any drawback/disadvantage if 2 exact Computers (which are out of warranty) have the same Service Tag?
