Charles,
Not sure if I suggested this.
I use these Recommended Wireless Router Settings I use channel 11. I would make a new SSID to make connecting easier. Sometimes when they're on auto channel, then channel changes and something loses communications.
Remember to power cycle the isp modem/router and the wireless router(if any)

I have a studio 1747 laptop, windows 7, could not see or connect to wireless access points
I had it checked and had a new DW1520 WLAN Half-Height mini-Card installed.
It connects to that companies wireless system, to my android phone and an iphone,
It sees all access points but does not connect to any including free access points.
The company has tried 3 times to fix it... and have not been able to.
I've checked and updated the drivers etc to no advantage.
I've gone through all the setting and found a question that needs answering....
In the properties for the DW1520 WLAN Half-Height mini-Card in this computer I find
that under the advanced settings I find the location is set for USA and I can't change it, I'm in New Zealand.
At the bottom this page
<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
It says the card needs to be compatible with local wireless systems It should be USA, Japan or has no setting...
on this page
http://supportapj.dell.com/support/edocs/network/p70008/en/vista_7/props.htm#727180
under "location it mentions the same problem"
How does this effect me?
Is it the wrong card?
Thanking you in advance for your help

Characw,
A couple of questions.
Does this computer have the WiFi Catcher?
Can you run an ipconfig /all log and post it back here.
What virus program and firewall are you using?

Characw,
A few models had a button on the hingde on both sides. One was the power button and one was the WiFi Catcher.
Go to Drivers & Downloads enter your service tag number, then your operating system.
Download the drivers for the DW1520 Wireless-N WLAN Half-Mini Card and save them to your desktop.
Make a system restore point.
Start, control panel, device manager, network, right click on DW1520 Wireless-N WLAN Half-Mini Card, left click uninstall. Tell it to remove the drivers and software for the adapter.
Restart the computer. When you log in to an unrestricted account, the new hardware wizard will look for the adapter and install it. Look in the device manager and see if it installed. If it didn't install, then use the drivers from the desktop.
Try to connect.
What happens?

Hi Rick,
Thanks for your help, but did not work.
Above is the screen shot once I restarted the computer, showing the device manager and showing the properties.
So I then clicked on "other devices/network controller" and installed the latest drivers from Dell..
Above is showing after the latest Drivers installed.
Looking forward to next step.
One good thing in doing that, is it now recognizes the country as New Zealand.
But it will not connect to anything other than cell phones.
The signal strength is good or better.and my other laptop is connecting ok
Cheers 4 now

Charles,
Did you recently install/reinstall the operating system? If yes did you install the Desktop/Notebook system software and the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order
Start with the Desktop/Notebook system software and the chipset drivers and follow the list.

Hi Rick,
Thanks for that suggestion, you had me thinking there, but that was the order I installed the drivers.
Still not connecting...
Cheers
Looking forward to the next clue...
Is there a chance the DW1520 Wireless-N WLAN Half-Mini Card is faulty?
Thanking in advance

Rick, i still need you help,
I've been trying to get this problem fixed and it is very frustrating...
When the computer was trying to connect it would NOT give me the opportunity to insert the network security key...
I thought this was funny even though there was NO profile in the wireless networks manager.
I assumed the computer was a holding the key somewhere else....
So I set up a profile to see if this would work.. it didn't..
I then removed the home access info from the network profile settings, then

Thank you so much for your help Rick,
Yes it worked but only temporally, but I have fixed the problem..
A friend had a similar problem and found that as he had done a complete reinstall of windows 7,
followed the correct driver install procedure but no internet connection.
He found that the Dell driver installation includes a wireless controller that installs along with the driver.
This creates a conflict with the newly loaded windows wireless controller and creates problems with some
wireless connections.
I have removed the Dell wireless controller reinstalled only the wireless card drivers and all is working very well.
I thank you for your help, Hope I have explained this correctly and been able to help others.
Cheers
