Replacing Wired Router with a Wireless Router

In order to use my laptop around the house, I am intending to replace my existing router with a wireless router. Is it necessary to remove all of the previous software and control data before trying to install the wireless one?

Old router - Netgear RP614
New Router - Netgear WGR614

I'd recommend uninstalling the old software, before installing the new.

Thank you MRF4700.     I was unable to find the relevant software on my computer regarding the router operation but I found that the disk supplied by Netgear has a series of steps for installing the new router over an existng one and I presume that that it replaces the incorrect programs with relevant ones.

I was able to install the wired network for the desktops without too much difficulty but the laptop has been more difficult.     I tried to set up a wired connection first and it was many hours before I found that the lead was faulty.   After replacing the lead the laptop is now connected to the internet and working.

In order to set up the wireless network, it is necessary to configure the wireless system in Windows using the Network Connection Properties sequence,  but, on this computer, one of the important options is not available - Wireless Networks.     I am sure that there is work-around for this problem, one of the KB articles is relevant, but if anyone can offer some advice I would be very grateful.
